SINGAPORE - Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun
Hussein said the sacrifices of the heroes of history, the late Lieutenant Adnan
Saidi and members of the Malay Regiment who died in defense country should be a
lesson to the younger generation.
The warriors of Malaya, particularly Lt. Adnan, the
Regiment Malay with his team members were killed in the bloody battle of Hill
Opium and the fall of Singapore to the Japanese that occurred at Feb 14, 1942.
Singapore was part of Malaya.
"Tomorrow (Friday) is a historic date and visit our
gallery (Lt Adnan Reflection Center) today and the way we remember sacrifices
of those who have contributed a lot not only for Malaysia but also to the
Singapore authorities.
"What has been traversed by the late Lt. Adnan must
be learned by generations young, "he told reporters at the prayers and
visits during salute the heroes countries Lt Adnan Reflection Centre, Bukit
Candu, Pasir Panjang here.
Also present was Malaysian High Commissioner to Singapore
Datuk Husni Zai Yaacob.
Hishammuddin said the incident, experience, and history
of the two countries is can enlighten "us that the future of the state and
nation depends the awareness that the commotion, discord and hatred if not
contained can metastasize and spread to something heartbreaking.
"My visit to Bukit Chandu is personally bring their
own meaning, was the day before we commemorate the darkest days in the history
of non-only in Malaysia but also in Singapore as teaching us to see forward,
"he said.
Adnan bin Saidi, better known as Lt. Adnan was born in
the village of Sungai Ramal, Kajang, Selangor in 1915.
He is the eldest in the family.
In 1933, at the age of 18 years, Lt. Adnan enters Regiment
Malay. He was stationed in Singapore in late 1941.
Courage with Lt. Adnan 42-member contingent of Malay
soldiers fought fought tooth and nail to defend Pasir Panjang ridge is the
